Sky burial is a
sacred ceremony where the dead body is cut, bones pulverized and fed
completely to the vultures. It seem barbaric to the westerners. However, with
better understanding of their belief, one will appreciate that sky burial is
more romantic and environmental friendly. |
|
|
Tibetans believe in
reincarnation where the soul reborn to a new being. The dead body is just an
empty vessel to be disposed of.Imagine the body is recycled immediately to
the nature, becoming energy of the vultures soaring above the scenic
mountains. |

The sky burial terrace at
Banma is surrounded by numerous prayer flags. At the right is the stone where
the dead body is cut and bones pulverized. |
|
|
The body does not end up as
food of maggots and bacteria. It does not stink nor occupy land. The deceased
live in the memory of the love ones. |
